A visit from Caitlin

Auntie Caitlin came all the way from Maui to pay us a visit this last week. We had such a fun time and it was so nice to catch up with her. She brought us some wonderful housewarming & birthday gifts plus took some photos of Maya and of us as a family. We are so lucky to have such a caring, thoughtful and generous friend like her! Here are some photos of the highlights of her trip:

On Friday we went to the International Rose Test Garden at Washington Park. It is gorgeous there this time of year! Caitlin took some beautiful photos of Maya in the roses and on the playground, I can’t wait to see how they turned out!

That night Caitlin & Eleni came along on the monthly Mom’s Night Out. We went on the BrewCycle Old Town pub crawl, danced the night away at 80’s night at Crystal Ballroom and ended the night at Jake’s plus stopped at Voodoo Donuts on the drive home. It was such a fun night!

On Saturday she visited family in Washington. On Sunday my parents made us a yummy waffle breakfast out on the patio. Then we left Maya in their care and headed out of town for some wine tasting. We visited Argyle in Dundee, Stoller In Dayton, Seven of Hearts in Carlton and Penner-Ash in Yamhill (all about 10-30 minutes apart). Stoller & Penner-Ash had gorgeous views, Seven of Hearts had by far the best deal on tasting (plus paired with chocolate) and Argyle serves their sparkling wine to the president! It was such a fun day. We have been so busy with the house and with Maya it was nice to get out of town and utilize those babysitters!

On Monday, Maya, Eleni, Caitlin and I had breakfast at Pip’s Original Mini Donuts, our new favorite spot. Then we spent the rainy afternoon doing some fun tie-dye! The girls surprised me with some sweet gifts and a chocolate cake for my birthday. Later we dropped Maya off with my dad and saw Pitch Perfect 2. That night we had dinner at the food carts on Division (our favorites).

On Tuesday we had breakfast at Pine State Biscuits. Their specialty was a biscuit with fried chicken, bacon, cheese and apple butter! I can’t believe I had never been there before, it was really tasty. Later, we met Eleni during her lunch break at Elephants Deli, another exciting culinary delight!

Caitlin had lots of playtime with Maya and Maya almost said “Caitlin”. You could tell Maya was having so much fun being one of “the girl’s” during all of our giggly meals and time together! Thanks so much for visiting us Caitlin! We had a blast and can’t wait to come visit you and Mikey soon!

Pre Heat Wave

Today was the last pleasant day before a heat wave rolls through. The high 70’s low 80’s are my kind of summer weather so I’m not extremely excited about it being 90 on my birthday next Friday!

I’m so glad we have our basement finished so we have a cool spot to hide when it gets too hot! Maya’s great grandparents got her a little wading pool that we will definitely be filling up this weekend. Today we just used it as a ball pit.

We visited Indoor Park at Peninsula Park today. Now that Maya is one she gets to play with all the cool cars and scooters. She is crying here but I promise she (mostly) liked it!

I was talking with a dad I had met before and he mentioned a cool park in Vancouver so later that day we crossed the border to check if out.

They have an awesome stream and sprinkler area. We will come back later with our swimsuits!

Maya’s First Birthday Party

On Maya’s actual birthday, we hosted a party at Mt. Tabor Park for all of her friends. She was so excited for the party. When I showed her the balloons she started shrieking with joy! She flips out when she sees balloons at the grocery store so I made sure to have a bunch at her party. Billy brought her from my parents house in her new wagon and she started shrieking some more when she saw the swings and the toys outside. The cake was a yummy vanilla cake with fresh strawberry filling and real whipped cream frosting. It was so good, I just might buy it for her every year until she has a preference! On the menu was fruit, turkey, cheese and puffs – a bunch of her favorites. We brought her tunnel and fort plus had two ball pits and a bubble machine! The main attraction was of course the swings. I handmade the favors on my new sewing machine: headbands and drool scarves! It was the perfect setting for a first birthday and she loved every second of it.

The location was at the small swing set that we visit all the time and was actually the sight of my own first birthday party (almost) 29 years ago! It was a gorgeous day and the late afternoon sun felt wonderful!

No Hume party is complete without a photo booth, and it was extra silly with all the babies!
